Optimising sunshades for daylight and heat balance
The aim was to find an optimal design of fritted glass sunshade system which reduced most direct solar penetration to minimise heat gain and glare, while allowing sufficient daylight in the interior spaces.
Solar behavior was simulated on the building façades with different options (or number of iterations) of the sunshades throughout a year. Daylight values and shadow casting characters in the interior spaces were informed as impacts from each design option. By comparing the different results, the team was able to select the system exhibiting the most desirable performance.
